Built as a private residence in 1883, La Trémoille opened its doors as a hotel in 1925. It was named after Louis II de la Trémoille, a famous French general and statesman, who also lends his name to the hotel’s gourmet restaurant, Louis². Now a five-star establishment, it has come to exemplify classic French charm.
By the 1960s, the hotel and restaurant had become a favourite haunt of great American jazz musicians, counting Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong among its frequent visitors. The elegant eatery, decked out in a rich red colourway, evokes a classic jazz lounge. A deep red Tai Ping carpet slides underfoot. Soothing concentric circles cut through the plush textile, adding texture to the space.
