The Earth & Sky collection comes from the contemplation of finding the profundity of nature in its interplay with time. Patterns are modestly underplayed, with the kind of quiet, undeclared beauty that waits patiently to be discovered. It encourages a sophisticated minimalism that celebrates the resonance between the spirit of the materials and the maker' hand. This concept appears in the vibrant Japanese intellectual landscape as “Wabi Sabi”. The collection takes its inspiration from the Tibetan High Plateau, where our wool is sourced from nomads following ancient grazing routes. The designs are presented in two groups meant to evoke the texture of Earth, and the ethereality of Sky. A subtle palette accompanies the inherent harmony of both groups, allowing a natural relationship to occur between the earth and sky designs, such that they work as companion pieces. The earth group incorporates plant fibers including cactus, nettle and hemp, and combines innovative weaves with multilevel cut and loop pile. Complexity in their construction is understated, but gives a sense of the natural process which is dynamic while also relaxing to the eye . In many of the designs, a kilim end and selvedge are executed in contrasting color to invite the viewer to notice the interaction that exists in the natural world between organic objects and time. The second group is comprised of hand spun Tibetan Wool, and Silk executed in all cut pile. The composition of each design is vibratory and atmospheric, meant to inspire the viewer with a sense of expansive movement and interplay between light and sound.
